Founded in 2019, Frost Call has become Boston’s top veterans gaming charity.

FROST CALL Mission

F.R.O.S.T. (Fast Response on Short Transmission) Call: A system designed in the USMC Reserve to facilitate rapid response and communication among service members during emergencies and prior to drill dates. Rapid response systems have been developed across other branches of the military, and all serve to provide a means to directly connect, respond to, and support service members regardless of their location.

Our Vision

Frost Call fosters a community for veterans with a common interest in video and tabletop games. We facilitate in-person gaming events and online conversation as a means to stay in touch and support our brothers- and sisters-in-arms. We advocate for peer and professional support for veteran mental health and wellbeing.

Core Values

1.     Community: Looking to connect with other vets in a casual setting? Come hang out with us.

2.     Wellbeing: In the military you might call for fire or air support. Why wouldn’t you call for support once you leave the service? We support one another and advocate for accessing mental health services when we need it.

3.     Inclusivity: We serve all who serve, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, ability, or era of service.

Frost Call’s Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Embedded in our core beliefs is the statement that Frost Call “serves all who serve, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, ability, or era of service.” But what does that mean, exactly? How is Frost Call as an organization making efforts to serve these underrepresented communities? The answer: not enough. Frost Call can do better, and will strive to actively learn, grow, and expand, in order to ensure all veterans have a strong voice in our community as well as the confidence and support to use it. To this end, Frost Call commits to the following as a starting point:

  1. Frost Call benefits from a diverse staff to better reflect the veterans of color, female veterans, veterans with differing abilities, and LGBTQ+ veterans we serve. To this end, Frost Call is actively seeking more staff members of diverse backgrounds for volunteer positions.

  2. When veterans first arrive at an event, stream, or our discord server, it should feel welcoming. Language that singles out others on the basis of their race, ethnicity, abilities, gender, or sexuality has no place in our organization. We reject the notion that this is a “politically correct” stance; this is a “humanity correct” stance. To this end, we will be more diligently monitoring language/jokes/comments and providing corrective feedback in the Discord and at events for non-inclusive statements, such as microaggressions or humor at the expense of certain groups. Branches of service, however, are fair game for good-natured ribbing.

  3. The Frost Call community should reflect the diverse veteran population we serve, and we can do better at reaching out to veterans in order to ensure we are more representative. This means soliciting games and gaming events that are representative of gaming culture outside of the white/male bubble. We will be sending out more requests for feedback in our discord and gaming community to ensure more representative events.

“Great org with a great mission. Glad to have gotten to know this group. Fun activities, friendly people, welcoming and accepting atmosphere, with a diverse group of veterans and their friends/family/supporters. When one event ends, I always find myself looking forward to the next.”
